Cook, Houlihan Receive Patriot League Weekly Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse players earned Patriot League weekly awards on Monday after the Greyhounds' 16-11 win over Navy Friday night at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Joe Houlihan was named the conference's defensive player of the week, and Mason Cook picked up top rookie honors for the second-consecutive week.

Houlihan finished Friday night's game with three caused turnovers and an equal number of ground balls against the Midshipmen. He played a major role in helping the Greyhounds hold the Midshipmen to four goals in the second half and only two during a 25-minute stretch that saw Loyola go on an 8-2 run and put the game away.

This season, Houlihan has put up career-high numbers in ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (19) while starting all 13 games on close defense.

Cook scored twice for Loyola on Friday night, tallying a pair in the first and second quarters while the Greyhounds built an 8-7 halftime advantage. He later had several sustained dodges that helped open up offense for other players to score for Loyola.

He rans second on the team in goals (17), points (24) and is tied for second in assists (7) this season. During Loyola's seven Patriot League games to date, Cook has scored 13 of his goals, and all 17 of his tallies this season have come in the last nine outings. Over the last four games, Cook has scored 12 goals and has five assists.

Loyola will wrap up its 2025 regular season on Friday afternoon when it heads to New York for a 4:30 p.m. game at Army West Point.
