MAAC Announces 2012-13 Men's Basketball Preseason Teams

Edison, N.J. - The MAAC announces the 2012-13 MAAC Men's Basketball Preseason All-MAAC Teams, as selected by the league's 10 head coaches.

The Preseason First Team includes Derek Needham from Fairfield University, Lamont Jones from Iona College, Erik Etherly from Loyola University Maryland, George Beamon from Manhattan College and O.D. Anosike from Siena College.

One of these five players will be named the 2012-13 MAAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year during the 2012-13 MAAC Basketball Preseason Awards Show on Friday, November 9 at 8:15 p.m., live on ESPN3.

Needham was an All-MAAC Second Team selection last season. He ranked 20th in the MAAC in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per outing for the Stags. He also ranked fifth in the league in assists (3.4 per game), 10th in steals (1.3 per game) and 11th in three point field goal percentage (38.9 percent) during his junior year, which was ended prematurely due to injury.

Jones, an All-MAAC Second Team choice last season, was second on the team in scoring as a junior with 15.7 points per game, good for sixth place on the MAAC scoring chart. He owned a 45.9 field goal percentage, a 35.3 three-point field goal percentage and a 78.0 free throw percentage.

Etherly, a member of the 2011-12 All-MAAC First Team and the 2012 MAAC Men's Basketball Championship MVP, ranked 11th in the MAAC in scoring last season, netting 13.7 points per game for the Greyhounds. He also finished in fourth place last season in the league in both rebounding, with 7.5 caroms an outing, and field goal percentage, connecting on 53 percent of his attempts from the field.

Beamon was a member of the All-MAAC First Team last season. He is the league's top scoring leader, scoring 19.0 points a night for the Jaspers, good for a tie for 24th on the NCAA chart. Beamon netted 48.5 percent of his shots from the floor (10th), 42.7 percent from three-point range (fourth) and 80.1 percent from the charity stripe (fourth).

Anosike, a 2011-12 All-MAAC First Team selection, led the nation for his junior campaign in rebounding, pulling down 12.5 caroms per game for the Saints. He finished ninth in the MAAC in scoring last season, posting 15.0 points an outing, and ranked fifth in the conference with his 52.4 percent field goal percentage.
