Loyola Athletics Sets Fiscal Year Fundraising Record

July 28, 2014

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland Athletic Department enjoyed a record year in fundraising during the 2013-14 academic year with more than $3.6 million in gifts received.

"Our alumni, parents and friends are helping to transform the way Loyola athletics operates," said Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Jim Paquette. "The funds we raised in 2013-14 have enhanced our facilities, generated endowed scholarship support and enabled our coaches to provide a first-class experience and training environment for our student-athletes."

Since 2010-2011, Loyola Athletics has seen a better than 700 percent growth in annual cash gifts received.

Highlights of the year include the establishment of six new endowed scholarship funds, bringing the overall total number of endowed athletic scholarships to 15, while a $2.2 million gift was made to help enhance Loyola's athletics facilities. Additionally, fundraising for the Greyhounds Athletics Fund and for team initiatives help Loyola's programs continue to build upon the positive momentum generated in the school's first season as a Patriot League member.

While the dollars raised continue to increase, alumni giving participation also remained strong thanks to the first-ever Student-Athlete Alumni Challenge, held in February. The golf program's alumni earned $5,000 for their program by having the highest team gift participation rate as of Feb. 28, while the rowing team also earned $5,000 by having the largest growth in its participation over the previous academic year.

All funds raised for athletics are part of Bright Minds, Bold Hearts, the University's $100 million comprehensive campaign. For more on the campaign and how to make a gift to Greyhounds Athletics, visit campaign.loyola.edu.
