Three Loyola Student-Athletes Named Sellinger Scholars

May 21, 2015

BALTIMORE - Three Loyola University Maryland student-athletes were among those named to the Sellinger Scholars program this month, an honor reserved for the top first-year students in the business school.

Men's rowing's David Bjorklund and two men's lacrosse players -- Foster Huggins and Jared Mintzlaff -- were selected to the group.

The Sellinger Scholars program is an honors program in business administration designed to prepare high achieving, highly motivated undergraduate students for roles of leadership and service in a diverse and changing world.

The program has two primary components: honors level curricular coursework taken as a cohort of scholars and participation each term in a Sellinger Scholars Experience.

All three were contributors to their teams as freshmen at Loyola. Bjorkjund was a member of the men's varsity eight boat, while Huggins and Mintzlaff both played in all 15 games for the men's lacrosse team. Huggins was a member of the Greyhounds' man-down defense; Mintzlaff was a part of the short-stick defensive midfield group, and he was fourth on the team with 11 caused turnovers.
